Online Resources from Skilled Wound Care
Wound care is a challenging and exciting field with a wide range of specialized knowledge. Staying up to date with the latest advancements in the field is essential for all healthcare providers. Carrying around heavy textbooks is absolutely impractical (although we do recommend the very portable Mastery of Skin, Wound, and Ostomy Care by our own Dr. Bardia Anvar, now in its second edition) - so where to look?
In this post, we’ll outline a compendium of three excellent online resources that Skilled Wound Care has made available online - for free! - to help you stay up to date (or refresh your memory) on the best practices, techniques, and science in wound care. And this is only a small sample: Skilled Wound Care has an extensive database on online wound care resources available to you, anytime, anywhere.

(1) Tissue Types
Unsure whether you’re looking at healthy or unhealthy granulation tissue? Just consult our Tissue Types reference. The answer: see below. The image on the left is healthy - pink/red in color - while the image on the right is unhealthy and indicates poor blood supply to the site).
(2) Pressure Injury/Pressure Ulcer

These wounds are especially critical to assess and treat properly - and Skilled Wound Care has the wound healing the information you need! Everything from assessment to dressing to complications can be found on our Lower Extremity Wounds page. Here’s a brief sample:
“Assessment of the dorsalis pedis pulse is an important component in determining the etiology of the lower extremity chronic wound. The dorsalis pedis artery can be palpated or found lateral to the extensor hallucis longus tendon on the dorsal surface of the foot, distal to the navicular bone.”
