HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM SKILLED WOUND CARE!

Happy Holidays from Skilled Wound Care!

This holiday season, we wanted to take a few moments to expand on some season wishes we have for all our friends and colleagues.

1. Be merry.

Attitude, as they say, is everything. Keeping an optimistic perspective will help us conquer those daily setbacks that are bound to come our way. Laughing - a real, actual out loud laugh (not just an LOL text!) can boost energy and heart rate by 10-20% (for a net burn of anywhere between 10 and 40 calories). You really can do your body a favor by laughing more! And of course, the studies linking optimism and positivity to good health outcomes are numerous: whether it’s living longer, getting sick less often, or recovering more quickly from illness, being merry is absolutely good for you.

2. Be joyful!

We strive to take joy in our work, but joy isn’t always a hands-clapping, kicked-up-heels feeling. Sometimes it’s a deep sense of satisfaction, a quiet moment of purpose, or the deep human connection that comes from the chance to comfort someone who needs a heart full of understanding. “The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives, and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”

3. Be well!

For those of us in the helping professions, it’s easy to let our own health take a backseat to that of our patients. Sometimes we run ourselves ragged, or push past our limits, because our commitment to helping others is so strong. Remember - you cannot pour from an empty cup! Take care of yourself: get enough rest, eat well, enjoy some sunshine and some healthy movement, and most of all, take the time to recharge mentally and emotionally with friends, family, and your support network.

Happy holidays, everyone: wishing you peace and joy.

Skilled Wound Care is a mobile surgical practice committed to transforming the chronic wound care model in nursing facilities. Wound care experts make weekly bedside visits to patients in long-term care facilities, avoiding transfers to hospitals or clinics. Our expert physicians give patients the most up-to-date and effective wound treatments, and educate facility staff on how to help patients continue to heal quickly and effectively between visits. This model of collaborative care allows SWC’s physicians to improve patients’ lives and health outcomes, to empower nursing staff, and to raise public awareness. Skilled Wound Care, along with its nurse and nursing home partners, is working every day to positively transform traditional nursing home wound care.
