Nursing Homes: An Under-Served Population
September 13, 2017 - Skilled Wound Care
Do you want to help one of America’s most under-served populations access better quality healthcare?
Nursing homes care for one of the most overlooked disadvantaged populations in the American healthcare system: the elderly. And as recent events in Houston during Hurricane Harvey made all too clear, often this population is overlooked until conditions become so dire that they are truly disastrous. Skilled Wound Care is striving to change the model of providing care to the nursing home population, and is looking for caring, compassionate, and qualified healthcare providers to help in the cause.
“Racial and ethnic minorities, the elderly, low-income people, and other marginalized groups often struggle to navigate the healthcare system, are less likely to get healthcare when they need it, and suffer disproportionately from disease and poor health.” (source) Skilled Wound Care holds as a core part of its mission that these populations deserve the best possible healthcare, and is committed to training and creating a collaborative model of care that reduces pain, hospitalizations, and other negative outcomes.
We truly care about revolutionizing the way that nursing home residents receive care: we believe that excellent, cutting-edge wound care is one of the best ways to help this vulnerable population enjoy a better quality of life. It’s our mission to bring these practices to as many facilities as possible, and to help create as many teams of doctors, nurses, and other providers as we can across the country.
If you want to join Skilled Wound Care in its mission to help this disadvantaged population, consider becoming one of our healthcare providers or partnering with us at a nursing facility. We know that this struggle may be a long and arduous one, but it’s a fight we’re committed to winning.
Skilled Wound Care is a mobile surgical practice committed to transforming the chronic wound care model in nursing facilities. Wound care experts make weekly bedside visits to patients in long-term care facilities, avoiding transfers to hospitals or clinics. Our expert physicians give patients the most up-to-date and effective wound treatments, and educate facility staff on how to help patients continue to heal quickly and effectively between visits. This model of collaborative care allows SWC’s physicians to improve patients’ lives and health outcomes, to empower nursing staff, and to raise public awareness. Skilled Wound Care, along with its nurse and nursing home partners, is working every day to positively transform traditional nursing home wound care.
